Driven by empathy and creativity, we befriended animals, who in return helped us with heavy physical work. Then, thanks to our cleverness and "creative laziness," we built machines to take over boring tasks — freeing our bodies for more meaningful activities. Next, we created computers to handle routine mental work, freeing our minds from tedium. Wanting to share ideas broadly, we invented the Internet, making the world's knowledge instantly accessible. Driven to grow even faster, we created artificial intelligence — giving everyone, instantly, the full story of who we are and what we've learned.
Step by step, we have used emotion, creativity, and intelligence to evolve from survival and hard labor toward greater freedom, deeper connection, and lives filled with more emotion, more creativity, and more meaning.
